UNIDISK SC
The Perfect Vision, US
Mar 2006
"The Unidisk SC hides a dazzling amount of performance in a lightweight, modest looking grey chassis. Capable of playing virtually any variety of 5-inch optical disc, the SC delivers great color, with low motion and deinterlacing artifacts, good complex-motion processing, and very good 3:2 pulldown. The Linn’s audio performance was in a class by itself—simultaneously lush and detailed, with a deep, silent background and reach-out-and-touch-it soundstage. Its audible superiority is clear whether using it at relatively low background levels or rocking the house at full blast. The Unidisk SC just sounds natural. Whether SACD, DVD-A, or CD, music from this player has a rare, overarching sense of ease. It's a notch above what otherwise superb players can deliver. Add the fact that it can do quadruple duty as a universal disc player, as a hub in a Linn-centric networked entertainment system, as a high-quality digital decoder, and as a remote-controlled preamp, and its $5k price tag begins to make a lot of sense. With the availability of the Unidisk SC, many high-end home-entertainment systems could be in danger of imminent streamlining."
