Synopsis:
'Carved from a solid ingot of aluminium, the sheer build quality of the Klimax DS assured me it was a serious, high-end piece of audio equipment...it looks very understated and elegant, just what you'd expected from the Scottish hi-fi masters.
The Klimax DS gave an immediate improvement to the sound, being cleaner and much more immediate than the CD. The snare drum had better 'snap' and dynamic impact, while overall the music had better pace, rhythm and timing.
What was amazing, however, was that the CD had been stored at its native 16/44.1k. Essentially I had been listening to the CD minus the whirring transport and the improvement was considerable: better definition, more vibrancy and realism.
Linn has a revolutionary product in the Klimax DS...it surely represents the finest two-channel sound quality available today. It's a landmark product from Linn and one that, thanks to the potential of software/firmware updates, may not even date. Amazing.'
