Mechanical Design Engineer

We are currently looking a Mechanical Design Engineer to grow our innovative Research and Development Team.

The Role:

You will be part of a multidisciplinary R&D department designing and developing exciting new audio products. The candidate will join the mechanical design team providing expertise in mechanical solutions to improve the performance of our products. You will be required to engineer how a product is made and goes together and will work collaboratively with our product designers to develop the aesthetics of a product.

You will also be responsible for ongoing technical support to production, service, and procurement teams. There is opportunity to increase responsibility by having sole ownership for a technology platform, delivering a series of products.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • BEng 2:1 minimum, in mechanical engineering or product design engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a research, product design or engineering environment.
  • Experience in 3D CAD, to model concepts and create detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Methodical and scientific approach to technical problems.
  • Creative thinking skills to conceive, design and test innovative solutions.
  • Experience in dynamic analysis and thermal management.
  • Knowledge of relevant production processes and materials. For example: extrusion; injection moulding; CNC machining; sheet metalwork; die-casting; anodising; plating and powder coating.
  • An understanding of DFM & DFA - ‘Design For Manufacturing & Assembly’
  • The ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels in the business.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient with SolidWorks.
  • An enthusiasm for music.
  • Ability to sketch and present ideas; feel free to provide a portfolio of work.
  • Experience in designing jigs and fixtures for analysis and test.
  • Experience in using workshop tools, and model making.
  • Proficient using Photoshop & Adobe Illustrator.
