Systems Administrator

We’re looking for a systems administrator, temporary or permanent, who can hit the ground running as we migrate our virtualisation stack to VMware on a brand-new EMC SAN (we’ve been running KVM over Linux up until now).

We’ll also be retiring our legacy backup infrastructure, and introducing Veeam to manage new backup and replication processes (including shipping data offsite).

The successful applicant will be responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the project: deploying our new SAN; setting up VMware; migrating our guests; configuring Veeam; building hardware; setting up kit at a co-located datacentre; testing and proving our backup/recovery and DR processes.

The project is a big deal for us, and should be fun. Ultimately, we hope to hire a new permanent sysadmin; however, we’re really keen to get this project done, so we’d happily engage a contractor to help us get there.

Essential:

  • VMware, especially with prior experience of migration projects
  • At ease with Linux and Windows (Debian, CentOS, Server 2003/2008 R2)

Really handy:

  • Experience designing and implementing business continuity/DR solutions
  • Familiarity with Veeam

Remuneration:

  • We're really keen to find the right person - so we’re open to negotiation.
